Vinyl flooring refers to the flooring produced with PVC materials. Specifically, it is produced by taking polyvinyl chloride and its copolymer resin as the main raw material, adding fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, colorants and other auxiliary materials on sheet continuous substrate through coating process or calendering, extrusion or extrusion process
Also known as “light floor material”, it is a very popular new type of light floor decoration material in the world and widely used, such as houses, hospitals, schools, office buildings, factories, public places, supermarkets, businesses, etc.
In terms of size: it can be divided into vinyl sheet, vinyl plank and vinyl tile flooring.
In terms of structure, there are mainly two types: heterogeneous and homogeneous.

Vinyl Sheet is a roll of floor with relatively soft texture. Generally, its width is 1.5m, 2m, etc., each roll is 20m long, and the total thickness is 1 mm-3.2mm (only for commercial flooring, sports floor can be thicker up to 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, etc.).
Vinyl plank is a rectangle piece of flooring, normally with sizes below:
4″ x 36″ (101.6mm x 914.4mm)
6″ x 36″ (152.4mm x 914.4mm)
8″ x 36″ (203.2mm × 914.4mm),
Thickness: 1.0mm-5.0mm.
Vinyl tile is square piece of flooring, normally with sizes below:
12″ x 12″(304.8mm x 304.8mm)
18″ x 18″ (457.2mm x 457.2mm)
24″ x 24″ (609.6mm x 609.6mm)
Thickness: 1.0mm-5.0mm.
Theoretically it can be the same material in production, but as a matter of fact, factories are using different materials.
Normally vinyl tile and vinyl plank are using the same material. But vinyl sheet is using more PVC content than vinyl tile & vinyl plank, which makes the sheet vinyl in better quality in life time usage, wear resistance, resilience and antibacterial & fungicidal.
For heterogeneous flooring, there is glass fiber material in sheet vinyl, but normally there is no this layer in vinyl tile and vinyl plank.
The machines for vinyl tile and vinyl plank are the same. Ii needs to cut into smaller piece after production.
The vinyl sheet production line is much bigger than vinyl tile & vinyl plank, and the technology is more complicated too. So there are many vinyl tile & vinyl plank factories in China, but only a few vinyl sheet factories in China.
Normally vinyl plank is with wood looking pattern, and vinyl tile is with stone looking patters.
Of course the luxury vinyl tile can be with patterned design, you can print whatever patterns you need on the printing layer and the printing quality is good, and that’s why we call it luxury.
It is very colorful for vinyl sheet cause we can print whatever colors we want on the flooring, and the printing quality is very good makes it beautiful and vivid.
Due to easy installation, smaller size of each piece and less traffic at home, vinyl tile and vinyl plank is mainly for residential usage, some for commercial usage.
Due to easy installation for big area, high wear resistance for heavy traffic areas, and food & hospital grade capable, vinyl sheet is mainly for commercial usage, and only a few for residential usage.
Vinyl tile and plank is easy to install, fast and less requirements. If you can plan your design, pattern and size well, you might be able to DIY with professional tools.
Vinyl sheet is also easy to install, but still a little bit difficult than vinyl sheet and vinyl plank. The installer will also need a little bit professional skills. So mostly in needs professional commercial sheet vinyl contractor to do it.
For vinyl tile and vinyl plank, there are many flooring joints; regular waxing maintenance is required. With fear of water immersion on the floor surface; poor dimensional stability of the floor; which makes the cleaning and maintain not very easy.
Vinyl sheet is much easier in cleaning and maintaining for less floor joints, stable dimensions, nntibacterial and fungicidal.
We cannot say which one is better:
But vinyl tile and vinyl plank are suitable for residential usage with smaller area
While vinyl sheet is suitable for commercial usage with large area, such as hospital, airport, school, library, traffic station, shipping mall, hotel, office, workshop, lab, GYM, etc.
