How to install vinyl sheet flooring

1, Installation preparation

Technical preparation

  1. Be familiar with and review the floor construction drawings
  1. Clarify the construction content and analyze the project characteristics.
  1. Carry out technical disclosure to operators according to the requirements of factory ground.

Tool preparation

  1. Floor treatment: surface humidity tester, surface hardness tester, floor grinder, high-power industrial vacuum cleaner, wool drum, self leveling mixer, 30L self leveling mixing bucket, self leveling tooth scraper, spiked shoes and self leveling vent cylinder.
  1. Floor laying: floor trimmer, cutter, two meter steel ruler, glue scraper, steel pressing roller, slotting machine, welding gun, monthly cutter, electrode leveler and combined scriber.

Material preparation

  1. The ground material of the project is vinyl coiled material: the plate surface is required to be flat and smooth, free of cracks, uniform color and thickness, and meet the design requirements and relevant technical standards.
  1. The electrode surface shall be flat and smooth, without holes, knots, wrinkles, uniform color, and the composition and performance of the electrode shall be the same as that of the floor.
  1. The adhesive shall be quick drying, high cleaning strength, strong water resistance, environmental protection and non-toxic, and comply with relevant technical standards.
  1. For material transportation, the inventory shall be stored vertically, and shall not be placed horizontally or stacked overlapped to avoid deformation of vinyl coiled materials. It shall not be stored in wet and sunny places to avoid discoloration and uneven color of the board surface. The adhesive shall be stored separately and protected from fire and sunlight.

2, Floor pretreatment

Floor detection:

  1. The temperature and humidity shall be detected with a temperature and humidity meter. The indoor temperature and ground temperature shall be 15 ℃, and the construction shall not be carried out below 5 ℃ and above 30 ℃. The relative air humidity suitable for construction shall be between 20% – 75%.
  1. Use the moisture content tester to detect the moisture content of the base course, and the moisture content of the base course shall be less than 3%.
  1. The strength of the base course shall not be lower than the requirements of concrete strength C-20, otherwise suitable self leveling shall be used to strengthen the strength.
  1. The test result of the hardness tester shall be that the surface hardness of the base course shall not be less than 1.2 MPa.
  1. For the construction of vinyl flooring materials, the unevenness of the base course shall be within the range of 2m straight edge, and the height drop difference shall be less than 2mm, otherwise it shall be leveled by suitable self leveling.
  1. Before the self leveling trial work, the ground surface shall be flat, dry, firm and free of dust and dirt. If there is hollowing on the tile ground, the hollowing ground shall be kicked off. Repair the ground again.

Floor pretreatment

  1. The floor shall be polished as a whole with a floor grinder of more than 1000 watts equipped with appropriate grinding discs to remove paint, glue and other residues, convex and loose plots, and empty plots must also be removed.
  1. Dust the floor with an industrial vacuum cleaner of not less than 2000 Watts.
  1. For cracks on the floor, stainless steel stiffeners and polyurethane waterproof adhesive can be used, and quartz sand can be paved on the surface for repair.

3, Floor self leveling construction

Self leveling construction - priming

  1. The absorbent base course, such as concrete and cement mortar leveling course, shall be sealed and primed with multi-purpose interface treatment agent diluted with water in the ratio of 1:1.
  1. For non absorbent base course, such as ceramic tile, terrazzo, marble, etc., it is recommended to use dense interface treatment agent for priming.
  1. If the moisture content of the base course is too high (> 3%) and needs to be constructed immediately, epoxy interface treatment agent can be used for priming treatment, but the premise is that the moisture content of the base course shall not be greater than 8%.
  1. The construction of interface treatment agent shall be uniform without obvious effusion. After the surface of the interface treatment agent is air dried, the next self leveling construction can be carried out.

Not all the subfloor will need primer. But if the subfloor condition is not that good, we will strongly recommend to use primer before self leveling, this will ensure the good quality of self leveling. 

Of course if the subfloor is dry, clean and flat, then you might not use primer. 

Self leveling construction - mixing

  1. Pour a bag of self leveling into the mixing bucket containing clean water according to the specified water cement ratio, and mix while dumping.
  1. In order to ensure uniform self leveling mixing, a high-power, low-speed electric drill with a special mixer must be used for mixing.
  1. Stir until there is no caking uniform slurry, let it stand and mature for about 3 minutes, and then stir briefly once.
  1. The amount of water added shall be in strict accordance with the water cement ratio (please refer to the corresponding self leveling instructions). Too little water will affect liquidity. Too much will reduce the strength after curing.

Self leveling construction - laying

  1. Dump the mixed self leveling slurry on the construction floor, which will flow and level the ground by itself. If the design thickness is ≤ mm, it needs to be scraped slightly with the help of a special tooth scraper.
  1. Then, the construction personnel shall put on special spiked shoes and enter the construction ground, roll gently on the self leveling surface with a special self leveling air release drum, and release the air mixed in the mixing to avoid bubble pockmarked surface and interface height difference.
  1. After construction, please close the site immediately, prohibit walking within 5 hours, avoid heavy object impact within 10 hours, and lay vinyl floor after 24 hours.
  1. For winter construction, the floor shall be laid 48 hours after self leveling construction.
  1. If it is necessary to carry out fine grinding and polishing for self leveling, it should be carried out after self leveling and drying.

4, Floor laying

Floor laying - Floor planning

      1.According to the design pattern, glue floor specification and room size, divide and snap lines for positioning.

  1. Pop up the central cross line or diagonal line on the base course, and pop up the mosaic block line.
  1. The edge lines and lines popped on the wall must be clear and accurate.
  1. The floor shall be arranged and pre assembled according to the line before paving, and the plates shall be numbered.

Floor laying - cutting

  1. Both coil and block materials shall be placed on the site for more than 24 hours to restore the memory of the materials, and the temperature shall be consistent with the construction site.
  1. Use a special trimming device to cut and clean the rough edge of the coil.
  1. When the blocks are laid, the two blocks shall be close together without joints.
  1. During the laying of coiled materials, overlapping cutting shall be adopted at the lap joint of two materials, which is generally required to overlap by 3cm. Be careful to keep a knife cut.

Floor laying – Glue down

  1. Select the corresponding glue and rubber scraper suitable for vinyl floor.
  1. When the coiled material is paved, one end of the coiled material shall be folded. First clean the floor and the back of the coiled material, and then scrape the glue on the floor.
  1. When paving blocks, please turn the blocks from the middle to both sides, and also clean the ground and the back of the floor before pasting.
  1. The requirements of different adhesive agents will be different during construction. Please refer to the corresponding product instructions for construction.

Floor laying - Exhaust

  1. After the floor is pasted, first press the floor surface with softwood blocks for leveling and extrude air.
  1. Then use 50 or 75 kg steel rollers to roll the floor evenly and trim the edge warping at the splice in time.
  1. The excess glue on the floor surface shall be wiped off in time.
  1. After 24 hours, grooving and welding shall be carried out.

Floor laying - slotting

  1. The slotting must be carried out after the glue is completely cured. Use a special slotter to slot along the joint. In order to ensure firm welding, the slot shall not be transparent. It is recommended that the slotting depth is 2 / 3 of the floor thickness.
  1. At the end where the slit cannot be cut, please use the manual slit to slit with the same depth and width.
  1. Before welding, the residual dust and debris in the groove must be removed.

Floor laying - welds

  1. Manual welding gun or automatic welding equipment can be selected for welding.
  1. The temperature of the welding gun shall be set at about 350 degrees.
  1. Squeeze the welding rod into the opened groove at an appropriate welding speed (to ensure the melting of the welding rod).
  1. When the welding rod is half cooled, the part of the welding rod higher than the floor plane shall be roughly cut off with the welding rod leveler or month cutter.
  1. When the welding rod is completely cooled, the remaining convex part of the welding rod shall be cut off with the welding rod leveler or month cutter.

5, Floor cleaning and maintenance

Clean the floor and now the installation finished.

Note:

  1. Vinyl series flooring is developed and designed for indoor places and should not be laid and used in outdoor places.
  1. Please select the appropriate cleaner for regular cleaning and maintenance according to the method recommended by the manufacturer.
  1. High concentration solvents such as toluene and banana water and strong acid and alkali solutions shall be avoided from dumping on the floor surface, and improper tools and sharp tools shall be avoided to scrape or damage the floor surface.
