UV coating & PUR coating

1) UV coating?

What is UV coating?

UV coating, namely “polyurethane UV curing coating”, is a way of surface reinforcement treatment with epoxy resin. Its formula is active diluent, oligomer, photoinitiator and additives.

What are the characteristics of UV coating?

The gloss and wear resistance of UV coating are very good. The coating has excellent chemical and physical properties and rapid curing characteristics. It is widely used by vinyl flooring. After UV coating treatment, it can greatly improve the anti pollution and antibacterial ability of vinyl flooring, increase the service life of wear-resistant layer, be easy to clean, effectively absorb ultraviolet rays and delay product aging.

Is the UV coating environmentally friendly?

UV coating adopts the light curing coating process on the coating surface. The light curing process adopted by UV coating has no pollution when spraying the coating. In terms of the process of factory processing the floor, the health and environmental pollution of workers is minimal. For the buyer, the finished floor has been in the processing process, so that the solvent in the coating volatilizes, which will not pose pollution hazards to the user.

How to judge the quality of UV coating?

Now the bright, semi matte and matte floors sold on the market are only the processing made in the process to meet different consumer needs, which has no inevitable relationship with UV coating. The coating quality is mainly reflected in whether the product surface is plump and good-looking, and whether it has high antibacterial, pollution resistance, wear and scratch resistance indicators, etc.

2) PUR coating

What is PUR coating?

PUR coating means polyurethane reinforced coating.

Polyurethane is one of the most common synthetic materials. Widely used in various products, such as refrigerator insulation materials, mattresses, toys and various coatings; Polyurethane has been widely used in the field of vinyl flooring in recent years because of its unique performance.

What are the characteristics of PUR coating?

High surface strength;

Scratch resistance;

Chemical resistance;

Is the PUR coating environmentally friendly?

PUR coating is harmful to human body and not very environmentally friendly. Unless for very high standard quality control on raw material and processing, orelse it is it might have some pollution.

How is PUR coating of vinyl flooring carried out?

The polyurethane, polyhydroxy compound and solvent are mixed and dropped on the surface of the ground material, and heated to produce a chemical reaction. Both cross linked and solidified into a network structure. This is the most typical polyurethane surface treatment method at present.

What are the functions of PUR coating?

It can effectively seal the pores on the surface of the floor material and reduce the absorption of the floor material to chemicals;

It has better wear resistance and strengthens the hardness of the ground material surface;

Extend the service life of the product;

Improve the antibacterial and hygienic properties of products;

Protect the product during installation;

Avoid specific grinding and waxing after installation and laying;

3) Main differences between UV coating and PUR coating

Material difference

PUR coating represents polyester coating.

The raw material of UV coating is epoxy resin.

Curing method difference

PRR coating is naturally formed and can be dried or cured at low temperature without other special processes.

UV coating needs to be dried and cured by strong ultraviolet light.

Coating thickness difference

PUR coating is thin but not very hard.

The hardness of UV coating is very high, and the thickness can reach 0.6cm.

Adhesion difference

PUR coating has excellent adhesion.

UV coating is inferior to PUR coating in adhesion.

Performance difference

PUR coating has excellent chemical resistance, acid, alkali, salt and petroleum products, and is not easy to crack and fall off.

UV coating has high hardness, good wear resistance, good transparency, scratch resistance and friction resistance.

Environmental protection difference

PUR coating is harmful to human body and not very environmentally friendly. Unless for very high standard quality control on raw material and processing, orelse it is it might have some pollution.

UV coating can decompose the harmful substances in the plate during the production process, without any volatile substances, which is a truly green and environment-friendly coating.

Conclusion: Both UV coating and PUR coating are functionally good for vinyl flooring. These surface treatment is essential to achieve below:

  • Antibacterial and fungicidal
  • Fire resistant & Water proof & Skid Resistant
  • Durable, scratch resistant
  • Resilient and comfortable
  • Softer and warmer to walk
  • Easy to install with rolls
  • Easy to clean and maintain
