6 Factors Affecting the Welding Quality for Vinyl Sheet Flooring

The quality of the welding on vinyl sheet flooring directly affects the maintenance and upkeep of the flooring in the future. Below is a summary of several common factors that affecting welding quality for commercial vinyl sheet flooring.

  1. Slotting thickness. When slotting, we need to use corresponding slotting tools, both manual and electric. But when slotting, we need to pay attention that the depth of the slotting cannot exceed 2/3 of the floor thickness, nor can it exceed 1/2 of the diameter of the welding rod.
  1. Keep notches clean. It is important to keep the notches clean and prevent garbage and debris from falling into them. We need to clean the debris from the groove in a timely manner during welding.
  1. Suitable welding temperature. Adjust the hot melt temperature according to the material characteristics of our flooring and welding rod. Both high and low temperatures are not acceptable. If you are not very proficient, it is best to find a piece of scrap material for some practice when preparing for welding.
  1. Pay attention to the speed and force during welding, as these can have an impact on the weld seam.
  1. Flat the welding lines. After the welding is completed and the welding rod cools down, the protruding welding line is flattened using a leveling tool to maintain a flat and aesthetically pleasing appearance of the sheet vinyl.
  1. Repair when damage. If there is a situation where the welding wire falls off in the later stage. Make sure to repair it in a timely manner. Because this can cause water to enter the floor, causing it to bulge. The reason for the detachment may be that we did not do a good job during construction, and the temperature adjustment of the hot melt was not in place, resulting in two PVC floors not being well welded together. Another reason is that the floor glue dissolves, causing the PVC floor to be pulled and the welding wires to come off.
